Re: Millenium Training

Hi Andrea,
We are a medium-sized library and we had three days of training for Millennium.. This
was not enough in our case because our staff had never before seen Millennium, beyond
a quick demo.
My advice would be to try to visit a library that is already using Millennium. See if
a few of your key staff members could shadow their staff for a day or two and get
familiar with Millennium. That way, the training won't be wasted on general
acclimation to the new look. It can be used for more in-depth questions.
Also, if possible, have the staff create a list of what functions they use on a
regular basis--such as printing notices or creating lists or keying records. Our
trainer was wonderful and very willing to customize the training but the staff had
deer-in-the-headlights syndrome (myself included!) and we weren't as prepared as we
should have been.
Remember too that there is a saturation point--our staff was exhausted after two days
of training and I'm not sure how useful another day would have been.
Check the IUG Clearinghouse as well--there are several good training resources for
Circulation and Serials.
Good luck!
