RE: Vernon Self Check

Sandy --

We use 3M self-check, and after a few skirmishes with the sip2 interface, the 3M and III techies were able to get us going. I doubt that our config would be the same as yours, but I wanted to offer words of encouragement - I thought III did a good job of working on our self-check interface.

But very related to your setup at mls - what model/manufacturer is your Vernon self-check unit? We found out recently that 3M is discontinuing maintenance in Dec 2005 for the older 5220 self-check unit that we have. The standard 3M pricing for new equipment is very expensive, and I know that I am going to have to do a very thorough investigation of alternatives. I see from the Vernon web site, that they are apparently the parent company for Integrated Technology Group that sells the Apex XpressCheck(tm). Is this what your library is using?

For other III users - Has anyone migrated their self check units from 3M to Vernon or any other company? What was your experience with the new self-check vendor? Were there III costs for the migration as well as the self-check system costs? I know that I am stretching the topic for the III list, but I'd appreciate any guidance on this.

Thanks

Paul

Subject: Vernon Self Check

Is anyone using Vernon Self Checkout at your site? One of our libraries
wants to use Vernon, and the initial tests Vernon is trying on our
Innovative System (we're on R2002, Phase 3) is not working. Has anyone
had this experience???? Any helpful hints for resolving it so that
Vernon can connect to the sip2 interface properly???
