I sorta took advantage of this option when we had our server upgrade three years ago. I am not sure it was set it stone yet as an option, so that is why I am hedging my answer. I would opt for the "self-install" method, especially if it saves you a few months. The techs at Innovative did a great job of labeling the cables and the ports on the back of the equipment. So in all honestly, it is as easy as a Lego set (just costs a bit more). If a guy like me (with intermittent hardware phobia) can do it, I think that anyone can.

I would say go for it. It probably does not hurt that the IUG Chair is at your library...so I would bet the farm that it will go OK. Actually, you do not need an IUG steering committee member at your library for this to work out well.

P.S. I have an intermittent fear of hardware, not a fear of intermittent hardware (though I guess we all do).

Subject: Innovative server upgrade

We have been in contact with III to see if there was a possibility of
moving up our server upgrade which is currently scheduled for February,
but have been told that they are booked solid, and are currently booking
into July 2005. As an alternative, they do offer a "self-install" option
which means that we do the installation, but work with them on the
details.

Have any other sites taken advantage of this option, and if so, could you
provide us with details on your experience.....positives, negatives,
technical knowledge required, length of time installation took, etc.

Thanks,
Barb
