The Position: Under the general supervision of the Dean of the
University Library and in consultation with library faculty and staff,
the Director of Library Technology will establish technology directions
in order to further the library's public service mission and strategic
goals. The incumbent will plan and develop all components of the
library's technological environment including the library's main
integrated data management system, library servers, public and staff
desktop computers and peripherals, the automated book retrieval system,
technology training modules, and technical support systems; research,
plan, and direct the implementation of new technologies; deliver the
highest possible level of technical expertise and assistance; provide
management oversight to the User Technology Services department within
the University Library; establish standards for purchases of hardware
and software; evaluate current practices and design new services and
policies to respond to and anticipate the needs of library patrons and
to increase staff productivity; serve as resource and advisor to
library staff and faculty in the selection of equipment and software;
serve as a liaison between the University Library and other academic
and administrative departments; develop and maintain an effective,
collaborative working relationship with other departments; maintain
awareness of CSU system-wide initiatives and issues, and contribute to
the identification and resolution of those issues that have
implications for the library; be responsible for all aspects of
personnel management for the User Technology Services department
including recruiting and performance evaluations; review and approve
contracts for services; analyze issues and participate in policy and
budget formulation and operational decisions; plan, direct, and
evaluate special programs including applications for digital object
management and preservation in support of open access digitization
projects and specialized functions such as electronic reserves and
interlibrary loan; and oversee inventories and maintenance records for
library technology hardware/software problems and their resolution.
Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field and at
least five years of managerial experience in a technological
environment. Experience with library technology desirable. Must
demonstrate the ability to provide planning, personnel supervision,
policy development, budget analysis, technical oversight of hardware
and software applications in a networked environment, and ongoing
communication with vendors and clientele served. The successful
candidate must possess knowledge and experience with PC and Macintosh
desktop and network operating systems, including familiarity with
Unix/Linux; sufficient computer networking knowledge to effectively
track, report, and communicate connectivity issues with library and IT
staff; strong user-centered approach to information technology and
training; strong project management skills and ability to juggle
multiple priorities in a busy, time-sensitive environment; excellent
troubleshooting skills; strong analytical skills, with a broad
conceptual outlook; excellent communications skills, including the
ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively;
ability to recruit, train, and supervise staff and student employees;
and fundamental belief in teamwork and interdependence and ability to
deal with complex internal and external relationships.

Salary and Benefits: Salary is competitive and commensurate with the
successful candidate’s background and experience. The Director of
Library Technology is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and
serves at the pleasure of the President. Benefits include extensive
