We upgraded from an Alpha to a new Sun in early September. The processing
speed is much greater. For example, a Create Lists job that scanned all our
bibliographic records (800,000+) with complex nested Boolean logic took
about 40 minutes on the Alpha. The Sun does it in about 5 minutes. Loading
new records (Marcive, Promptcat) is also much faster.
However, my Millennium client is not any faster for things that are
dependent on the PC. Unfortunately, our PCs are rather old as such things
go, and that is the part that slows us down sometimes.
But the server response time is wonderful.

Subject: Server upgrade to SUN
We are currently scheduled to upagrade our Innovative server from the Alpha
to the new SUN server in February. Are there any sites which have had this
upgrade completed, and if so, can you tell me if you noticed a great
improvement in your server response time? We've been struggling with major
system slowness which has impacted our Millennium clients and proxy rewrite
connections, and we are hoping that the server upgrade will resolve these
issues.
Thanks,
Barb
