I love the touchpad on my laptop! And it's really helped the carpal tunnel problem. I wish I had one at work too.
It does take a little getting used to, but it was worth it for me. Maybe the thing to do woud be to get one or two for people to try out, and then order for those who prefer them.

We don't use the keyboards with built-in touch pads anymore because none
of the staff liked them. Now they are in storage. Staff that even had
problems with their wrists couldn't use the touch pad that long because
they have always used a regular mouse. One out of fifteen liked the
touch pad but it had to be separate to the keyboard.
Don't have touch screen monitors.
