We have 3 3M 6210's lined up in a self-service format - nothing takes that
long nor does the one at our branch communicating via an SBC Frame Relay to
the Millennium server 6 miles away. In fact an entire transaction from start
to finish to check out 5-8 items and print a receipt may take that long. If
on the 3M you have enabled the screen that displays number of items checked
out, overdue, holds and amount owed, try turning that off [found in the
Policy tab]and see if anything speeds up. In the Configure menu there is a
SIP protocol window. There is a setting for Response Time, try playing with
that. Refer to the 3M Admin Manual pg. 54 for more details. 3M worked with
Innovative way back to enable self-checks in Millennium using SIP, so it
should work seamlessly. As you stated, your network is the next place to
look. HTH. Eeric Rhee

Subject: IUG - Slow SIP response time?
Hi, everyone. We're using Millennium and SIP 2.0 with our 3m selfcheck
model 6210, having just migrated to Millennium, and we're noticing that the
response time seems poor. Each step interfacing with Millennium, such as
validation of the patron barcode, lookup of the item barcode for checkout,
can take 40 seconds or longer to complete.
I've tried to rule out any networking problems on our end, and III's Help
Desk has tried to diagnose but without much luck. I'm wondering if anyone
else out there is using a 3m selfcheck machine and has experienced this
trouble, or is 40 seconds each step just to be expected? If you cured your
system of this slow response time, could you give me some tips as to what
was involved? Thanks!
- Adriene
