Something that you mentioned in this posting caught my attention: "We don't want to do it earlier, because we want the usage both circ and Internal counts for the year."
Please elaborate, or point me in the direction of the pages in the manual, that clarify what the effect of ongoing deleting items is on the annual circ statistics. Am I understanding this correctly, that if we delete items during the year as we are going along and weeding the collection, that any circ counts for these items are subtracted from the total year-to-date stats?
Thanks,
Paul

Subject: Re: Deleted Item and Bib Records Statistics
Melodie & Sue,
We don't delete items during the fiscal year. We code them "d"
in IType 2. At the end of the year, we run a review list of all item
records coded "d" and last updated between the beginning and end of the
fiscal year. Once we get the count, we then use that file to actually
delete them from the file using delete records of any type. We don't
want to do it earlier, because we want the usage both circ and Internal
counts for the year.
We code our deleted bib records "d" for delete and run a review
file of all items last updated between the beginning and end of the
fiscal year and coded "d." We don't delete the records because of the
payment information.
Because we have branches, we export the item information to Excel
and can find out how many items were deleted by each location.
Hope this helps.
