We also use Docutek's ERes and Millennium at the University of NC in
Wilmington and have no compatibility issues. We create records for
electronic documents, links to websites, audio files, etc in ERes. Any
item that circulates is linked from ERes to our catalog by either
creating a bib and item record for a personal copy or other "new" item
or by changing the location to Reserves and ITYPE to reflect the loan
period of items the library owns.

Feel free to contact me off list if you have specific questions.

Hello Linda,

Our library uses Millennium and Eres and has no compatibility problems.
In
Eres we post electronic reserve documents and links to the Millennium
WebOPAC for hard copy (book) reserves. There have been no problems that
I
know of . . .

Hi there,

We are investigating Docutek's ERes product for our library. I've
searched
the list archives, only to find intial postings about this topic, with
no
follow-up. Could any Millennium libraries out there who have used this
product please advise as to the compatibility of the two systems? Brief
anecdotes, pro or con, are welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Does anyone know of a way to create a listing of specific information
about
holds? All I can find is a how to generate a list of patrons that have
holds, or items that have holds. However, I cannot find information
about
the specific hold such as which patrons have which items on hold, the
age of
the hold, etc.

What we are looking for is something that would be able to gather item
level
holds of a certain age, say older than 3 weeks. This would help us
identify
holds ineligible for transfer because the 7 day paging limit has
expired,
but would not interfere with item level holds in transit to their pickup
location (in our case a single department). If we can get such a list,
can
we do any bulk transactions with the data?

Richard, et al,

You may not have been aware of this, but currently there is a
strike against the San Francisco Hilton. I doubt that the strike
will last to May first, but I would like to ask anyone planning on
attending the IUG convention to write to the hotel and to urge them
to please settle with their workers. If the strike does last to May
1 and beyond, I urge everyone to boycott the SF Hilton and to see if
their meetings can be moved someplace else. I further urge everyone
not to cross a picket line!

As union members ourselves (approximately 2/3rd of the tenure-track
faculty at SFSU and 90% of the SFSU library's faculty) we need to
stand in solidarity against other union members who also face unfair
treatment.

A key issue in the struggle is the right to health benefits. As
health care costs go through the roof, major employers in every
industry across the country are attempting to pass down health care
costs to workers, raising premiums, co-pays, or dropping coverage
altogether. The hotels are demanding that workers pay as much as $273
per month in health coverage costs. This would mean a huge pay cut
for low-paid workers, who are already struggling to make ends meet.

For hotel workers and other low-wage workers especially, health care
coverage is key to their survival. At the same time, this is an issue
of tremendous significance for all working people. Every time a union
contract loses health coverage, it emboldens all other employers to
try to force the same cutbacks on their workforce.

Support the hotel workers. Never has it been more true that AN INJURY
TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL - A VICTORY FOR ONE IS A VICTORY FOR ALL!

Health benefits may be the next item that the Chancellor's Office
may try to take away from us in our upcoming negotiations for a new
union contract. We need to stand in solidarity with our brothers and
sisters.

Before making reservations, I urge everyone to write to the Hilton
and ask them to settle. Also CC SEIU Local #2 to show them that we
stand in solidarity with their struggle for fair wages, benefits and
working conditions.

We're glaciating towards implementing the "media" column in our Webpac,
and could use some sage advice. We are not mapping anything to bcode 1
during record loading. We do use bcode 1 for a home-grown list of
material types, but it's strictly a hand-coded operation. I'd like to
automate as much of this as possible.

>From speaking with helpdesk, I understand that only one MARC record
element can be mapped to a bcode, and that they prefer it be from the
leader. The typical mapping for mat type is leader/06 (type). But that
would concatenate all print and microforms as "language material" (we
have a substantial microform collection). Both VHS and DVDs would be
"videorecording" and all CD-ROMs, online database, software, etc. become
"computer files" (except that most websites would still be "language
material"). Considering all the re-coding we'll have to do, it hardly
seems worthwhile to set up the mapping.

Another option would be to look at 008/byte 23 which is Form for most
formats, but not maps and visual. This would distinguish the print from
microform, but would bring together all the various electronic
resources, and would not distinguish sound or videorecordings at all.
For maps or videos, the mapping would contain garbage characters we'd
have to edit out.

To also bring in additional information, I'd have to map that to a
separate bcode. At least then, I could rapid-update bcode1. I
considered mapping leader/06 to bcode1 and 008/23 to bcode2, but that
means I'd have to give up BLvl (which we'd also like), and still have to
hand-code the visual material.

So what are people doing? Is there any way to use load profiling to
simplify mat type coding? The other option is to control Mat type
through a distinct 949 field for each format, but that's a level of
complexity we've so far avoided.
