Hi,
We just completed an inventory and the only way I found to deal with
this problem especially with a large number of records is to load the
file into a review file, sort by call number, export the barcodes, add
the "n:", and then do the comparison again. Too many items get the
misshelved error code and make the comparison without sorting first
useless.
Hope this helps.

Subject: Numeric Sorting - Inventory
Hello,
We are currently conducting an inventory of the circulating collection
and I am hoping that someone has encountered a similar situation with
successful resolution.
The problem:
III's numerical sorting system is precluding a successful comparison of
barcodes to our shelflist. According to III, this example is correct:
1,10,11,12,13,2,20,21,22,3,4,5,6,7,8,9
My file was scanned accordingly:
First item was HF 5001 C61 no.5
Last item was HF 5001 C61 no. 1318
Using a Percon B321 Barcode Reader, my students scanned 730+ items (all
of identical item location) as they appear in proper LC order; but due
to III's numerical sorting system, I wind up with a message
saying "First and last records' call numbers are not in order." Has
anyone found a way to manipulate their data in the text file such that
III will process the data in correct numerical order? I am hoping to
avoid the laborious task of physically sorting the collection per III,
scanning, and then re-sorting in LC order for the shelves.
Thank you!
Pat
