Hello,

We are a public library consortium that recently migrated to Millennium
and
are preparing to do our authority work. We have combined 33 libraries
into
one database that does contain quite a bit of original cataloging (i.e.
-
our catalog is far from perfect). The problem is that funding has run
out
and we are unable to afford to update all of our subject headings and
authors. Our thinking was to only do the records published before 2003
hoping that the ones from the last two years will be fairly accurate.
Does
anyone out there have any other ideas? Originally, we were hoping to be
able to do children's subject headings, genre's, etc... I just don't
see
how we can financially do it now. Any thoughts on this would be
appreciated.

I'm trying to download and install the milup131.exe (Millenium
environment for Windows) to a computer running Win 98 SE. Everything
appears to be fine -- the installation looks successful -- until I try
to run Millenium. I get the first password request, then the menus fail

to build -- i.e. I see the progress bar but no progress is made.

Any ideas?

Okay. I'm calling on the collective brains to help me learn something!
I got an interesting system message on my System Status Report, view
system messages, this morning. On the list of system messages to view
was one that said "Bad item location list - NONE" What does that mean?
Is there a list anywhere that I can look at when I see a message I don't
understand? I tried to look at the manual, but most of what I came up
with there were messages that we generate (notices, etc.) not what the
system itself generated. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

Does the progress bar sit there stuck, forever, or does the whole load

Robin --

I think the problem is the milup file that you are using. Starting with
Phase 3, you need to use the milup141.exe file that is available on
csdirect. The problem we had at Toledo was that when we went to upgrade
from milup131 to milup141, the icon and the shortcuts were different.
People went back to the original icons and this led to people getting
recurring messages about downloading the new client. This lead to lots
of fun for people all over the library!

I would try using the new Millennium Environment file and see if this
does the trick. Here is the direct link to the CSDirect page that has
all the Millennium client software for Windows (Password Required):
http://csdirect.iii.com/downloads/milclient.shtml

If you are not on Silver or Phase 3, I would check the DOS box to see
where the install stops and let the helpdesk know.

Hope this helps.

The progress bar just sits, stuck forever.

I'm using milup131 because that's what the rest of our library's on -- I

don't think our (remote) server has upgraded.

I don't want to miss any one interested. After much work dodging the
presidential debate, the first meeting of IUG Arizona has been scheduled
for 9:00-3:30, on Wednesday 10/27/04 in Hayden Library Classroom C6A at
ASU in Tempe. Any III library is welcome to join us. We have no
hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, mudslides or volcanoes. We
do have beautiful days and wonderful nights, if any one needs a reason
beyond an interesting meeting. No charges or registration required,
just show up.

For another view on this:

When we installed a new server about a year ago we got a system that did

not have the option for a backup tape drive. (There was some
misinformation
from III regarding this. "No problem".)

Later it was a problem, but what we do now is an unattended backup to a
hard drive (Yes, there are fees to pay and waivers to sign). Our campus
has
a Veritas tape backup that includes the Innovative backup files in its
nightly pass. We just make sure that our library backup is done before
the
Veritas system starts.

Backups take 5 minutes. No changing of tapes (for the library anyway).
It
is totally automated. I just check the file information the next day to
make sure there was no problem.

There was some confusion during our upgrade to Silver. The upgrade
process definitely asks for a "tape". I called III to check on this
and was told that it would fail, he would reset something, then we could

complete the upgrade later. Well, it didn't fail. By the time it
got to a checkpoint asking for input it was better to proceed rather
than create some confusion between the test for upgrade, and getting the

right Veritas tape. Fortunately all went well.

The next upgrade cycle I plan to proceed as if there is a tape drive.
No calls to III unless the upgrade software says there is a problem.

Backing up to a hard drive should now be an option. Contact your III
sales
rep if interested.

We think it was worth the extra fee.

Patience. On some of our clients things took "forever". I the worst case
we
left it running just for fun after having given up. It took pretty much

Hello Innopac (+ARTstor?) Users,

The California College of the Arts has recently subscribed to ARTstor
and we are having issues with off-campus access (i.e. java errors that
prevent access seem to be related to our proxy set-up in Innopac). Are
there are other subscribers among you who are linking to ARTstor via
your library server and that server is running Innovative Interfaces
Millenium Silver? We are using the Proxy Rewrite Method and are
wondering if anyone else has done the same with success. If so, please
reply off-list. If there are others with the same issue who want to
hear the resolution, I'll post it when we resolve it.

Thanks very much,

In addition to 001 field, many OCLC records have another control number
field, 019, which is duplicate records that have been deleted from
WorldCat and replaced by the present record.

I have two questions related to this 019 field:

When loading such a record into Innopac and overlaying an existing
record with 001 field only, is it possible to have the system compare
001 in both the incoming and existing records first, then, if they
don't match, compare the value in incoming 019 with that of 001 in
existing record?

We keep both 001 and 019 in our records, and our index rules list both
as OCLC # (o). However, the value of 019 is not searchable as OCLC
number. Any comment or suggestions?

Thanks,

It means that you have at least one item record that has no location.
You can see how many you actually have if you do a statistics cross-tab
report (on items) that has "Location" on one axis.

Finding and fixing are harder. You have to create a list of items with
the criteria
Item location not equal to A and
Item location not equal to B and
Item location not equal to C and ... including ALL your
existing item locations! (Tip: make this a "Saved search"!)

Then you have to go through the list and try to determine what the
location of each item should be. If you are a big library with lots of
branches you are in for a big job. In our case, we were fortunate that
most locations were obvious based on classification, bib location, and.
in a few cases, order location.

Finally, *check all your templates*!! Make sure that there isn't some
item template lingering somewhere that has no location -- this was the
source of our problem.

Good luck! --ann

Subject: system messages

In my last note to the group, I said that maps and parking info would be
forthcoming. Since we aren't meeting until the 27th, I hadn't sent that
out yet. You can probably expect this sometime next week.

Fred or Betty - can you tell everyone how to arrange for parking?

I don't want to miss any one interested. After much work dodging the
presidential debate, the first meeting of IUG Arizona has been scheduled
for 9:00-3:30, on Wednesday 10/27/04 in Hayden Library Classroom C6A at
ASU in Tempe. Any III library is welcome to join us. We have no
hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, mudslides or volcanoes. We
do have beautiful days and wonderful nights, if any one needs a reason
beyond an interesting meeting. No charges or registration required,
just show up.

Yes, it is possible under the following conditions:

1. 019 is indexed in your OCLC # index. (It means you can also find
the
019s in that
index.) They may or may display on your OPAC at that point. (Ours do
not)

2. Your MARC Load profile will need to be adjusted. If your site has
someone who is
trained to write Load Profiles, that is not a problem. If not, you
would
need to contact
the help desk to have your Load Profile edited/changed.
