Hi Doug,
We just set up our journal title index this summer. We index on 210, 222
and 290. The 290 is a local field where we can add any form of the title
that we think may be searched (245 |a or |b, 246)
* when there is no 222 field
* when the 222 field has a qualifier or different wording which makes
it file differently than the 245 title
* when there are 246 fields that are useful access points.
It has been a major project checking each and every journal title and
adding 290 fields as deemed necessary and we are still working through
lists. We weren't happy with the access provided by the 222 alone.

Hi everyone,
What MARC field do you have your journal title index mapped to? We have
had it mapped to the 222, but we are finding this problematic now that
many e-journals don't have 222s and even some print journals don't have
a 222. From what I know, a 222 is a field that has to be created by a
national agency and we can't create our own even it just copies the 245.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Doug
