I thought we did not have the boolean "not" functionality. 
I also thought we could not use the tag number itself as the selection
critereon (contents of tag legal).
Otherwise a pseudocode phrasing something like:

select (index=1 or index=0) not tag#=505 (from bib) <-- really loosely
phrased   
                                                        logic does not hold,
just
                                                        to give the idea

THE way you can accomplish it presently is to generate two reports output to
email. (1) the set of all bibs (2) the set of bibs having tag 505. Turn them
into  files saving from the email, then process using the language of your
choice (e.g. pascal, perl, C, etc.).

If it is important enough I could do the processing as a project for cash,
but I bet you can find a person who can write simple programs locally. Such
a person may even deny that they can program & require coaxing. Anyone who
has had a single course in computer programming can do it, provided the
library has or can buy a copy of the language that the programmer is
familiar with. Some languages are available for free.

If you can't find one, I'm serious about offering to freelance. Email me
directly if you wish to discuss terms.

	I'm trying to run a list that includes only ...

BIBs that do not have a 505 tag.

	... I've used up all my tricks like ...

MARC tag 505 < 0 (zero)
MARC tag 505 = "" (the null set)

	... with no luck ... I still find bibs with 505s running a test
statement against 
the first list.  

Any suggestions ?
