Has any library discovered a successful way to integrate WAM forward proxy URL's into e-journal alerting service? Examples: Emerald or ScienceDirect alerts?

A user can access the database via a WAM link and set up his/her personal contents page alerts. But once the user starts to receive the contents page links via e-mail, it does not contain the WAM url but just the ordinary direct URL. The user is then prompted for a user name and password when they try to access the full-text of the article directly from the e-mail.

Any examples on how libraries give instructions to their users on what to do?

Thanks
