We use acode1 to indicate the record source. We have three - the initial vendor load, OCLC, and the LC authority file via INN-View. If we ever do local (or locally-modified) records, that will be a fourth.

We use acode2 to indicate the indexing. For example, a name heading used as a subject would have to be downloaded and indexed as a subject authority record in order for the x-refs to appear in the subject index. If it is also used as an author, we need a separate copy of the authority record indexed as author. Same thing for titles. You can verify the indexing in Millennium by looking at the Innovative tag group codes, but I like having the information in simple form.

We have an acode3, which we use for suppression. Even if you can't imagine a need to suppress an authority record for the long term, its always nice to have a suppression code, because suppressing and then upsuppressing a batch of records will force them back through the transaction file. Among other things, that will refresh the indexing and trigger the automatic authorities updating, if you have that service.

Subject: use of fixed fields in authority records

Hi,

We , VCOB (a Belgian customer of Millennium) , have following question,
raised during our profiling and migration cycle:

Within the authority record there are 2 fixed fields.Currently, VCOB does
not use them. Is it possible to have some information how this fields
could be used?
For witch reasons they are used by other Millennium customers ?

All your answers are helpfull !

Thanks,
Marleen.
