Maria,
We have been using a USB model that I like.
We purchased from:

TEL: (763) 428-3170
FAX: (763) 428-3166
AbeTech / Abraham Technical Services, Inc.[Chicago Office]
2017 W. Shakespeare
Chicago, IL 60647
TEL: (773) 862-4495
FAX (773) 862-4599
Attn: Jerry Hall

Web: http://www.abetech.com
The scanner is:
PSC Quickscan 2500 USB CCD Scanner
PSC p/n: QS25-3100-00
Abraham p/n: LPSC-010115
The cable is:
[THERE ARE ALSO SHORTER CABLES- BUT WE BOUGHT
12ft CABLES BECAUSE WE WERE USING THEM WITH LAPTOPS]
Laptop 12ft USB cable
PSC p/n: 8-0481-08
Abraham p/n: 8-0481-08
It is a handheld scanner.
Total price will probably be under $180.
If you use Codabar barcodes, look carefully at the manual
[off course you need to print it out -- it's a pdf file].
The reader comes with several barcode symbologies activated
by default. But -- codabar is not one of them. It's a simple
process of scanning a barcode from the manual to "activate"
codabar.

After several years of patiently waiting, the library has been given
permission to upgrade from INNOPAC to Millennium. Although we have been
using the WebOPAC and Web Access Management for several years, we are
still using hard-wired, Wyse 50 terminals for staff functions. We will
need to replace all our peripherals for the staff modules. I have been
asked to obtain the specifications of the peripherals needed for
Millennium.
Upon checking CS-Direct and the IUG archives, I have been able to locate
specs for the PCs that are required. However, I have been unsuccessful
in locating specifications for barcode readers. Can someone either provide
me with the specifications or direct me to where I might find them.
We currently use Epson LX-300 printers with our staff terminals, an
Okidata Microline 320 as a serial label printer, and Okidata Microline
395 printers as system printers. Can these printers be used with
Millennium?
If not, what printers do you recommend?
Thank you for any and all advice you can provide.
