I am resending this with a clearer subject line. I sent it out too quickly yesterday and want to make sure that any Norcal folks that are not subscribed to the Norcaliug list see this message.

Apologies to the rest of you for the duplication.

Karen

Folks,

Things are beginning to take shape for our Oct. 22 meeting. We expect III to do a presentation on Metasource and Release 2005 enhancements. There will also be a tour of the Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Library following the program.

One thing we are contemplating is a panel discussion. We are considering a couple of directions for this panel and would like to know what you prefer. The original premise emerged from a conversation about how much the system has evolved for some of us from a strict turnkey character based environment to the current trend of giving much more power and control to the institution. This manifests in a number of ways--through advanced system administration, through the opportunities for web opac customization, through the ability to create or tweak record load information etc.

1. Would any of you be willing to participate in this panel discussion? Please contact me if you are interested. I know that there are many great resources among you.

2. The topic might be too big, so what should we focus on? Web Opac or System Administration. III will send different staff depending on the topic so I need to know asap.

3. Other--is there some other topic you would like presented or discussed?

Please respond by Sept. 10 so that we can get on with the planning and preparation.

Also please forward this to staff that may not be subscribed to either the Norcaliug or IUG lists.

Thanks in advance

Karen Johnson
Chair, Norcaliug
