Collection Development and Acquisitions Librarian
(Tenure-track)
FLITE

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates and facilitates collection development and gift programs.
Monitors and participates in acquisitions activities including pre-order
verification, ordering, receiving, payment, and claiming processes;
develops and monitors the overall acquisitions budget (approximately
$950,000); produces budget and collection development reports. Oversees
approval plan; develops business relationships with vendors and
publishers; monitors and evaluates vendor performance. Works with subject
liaisons to select materials, assess collections, and formulate collection
development policies. Participates in developing and documenting
policies, workflows, and procedures. Collaborates with librarians and
other staff in regard to serials and government document acquisitions,
selection of online resources, and licensing agreements. Participates in
appropriate University-wide and professional activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required - ALA-accredited masters degree in library or information
science; course work and/or work experience in library technical services.
Must possess the ability to use computer technology effectively, plan and
maintain budgets, keep track of details, negotiate and problem solve with
vendors, work independently and as part of a team, communicate well, and
develop collegial working relationships with others. A strong customer
service orientation is required. Must have an understanding of library
collection development principles with an awareness of current and
emerging trends in publishing and information delivery.
Preferred - Work experience in an academic library; experience in library
acquisitions, supervision, staff training, and using an Innovative
Interfaces system; business financial experience; additional graduate
degree.

SALARY/BENEFITS:
$32,000-$38,000 for a 12-mo. tenure-track faculty appointment with rank,
plus an excellent benefits package valued at approximately 38% of base
salary. Comprehensive benefits (after applicable eligibility and accrual
periods) include 20 days vacation, two days personal leave, paid holidays,
insurance (health, dental, vision, life, disability), medical
reimbursement account, retirement system options (e.g., TIAA-CREF,
Fidelity) with 12% University contribution, tuition waiver, and generous
support for professional activities. Assistance with moving expenses is
also available.

DESCRIPTION OF FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY AND THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY:
Serving close to 10,000 students, Ferris State University offers 120
academic programs in a diversity of disciplines, with graduate and
professional programs in optometry, pharmacy, criminal justice
administration, information systems management, and education. FLITE
(Ferris Library for Information, Technology, and Education), our highly
electronic, technologically advanced library facility, opened in March,
2001. FLITE features a variety of public work and study spaces, a total
seating capacity of 1,300, and computer connectivity for more than 1,000
users. The library uses the Innovative Interfaces Millennium system.
Ferris's main campus is located in Big Rapids, Michigan, a city of 12,000
located on the picturesque Muskegon River, 55 miles north of Grand Rapids
and within 220 miles of Detroit and Chicago. Nestled in the middle of
western Michigan's vacation heartland, this former logging community
offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including canoeing,
tubing, and fishing on the Muskegon; biking, hiking, and cross-country
