Title: SYSTEMS, LIBRARY WEB PAGE, USER SUPPORT, REFERENCE AND INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN
Position Number: EP11
Hours: 37.5 hours/42 weeks
Salary: Faculty: MA Degree Hiring Salary Range: $52,713-$57,736
Reports to: Director of Library Services

Position Opening August 20, 2004

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide Reference and instruction; administer and coordinate the Integrated Library System (ILS), the Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) Library Website, and Library PCs.

REFERENCE SERVICES RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide general and in-depth reference services to Library patrons in person and via electronic venues through regularly assigned desk hours (including some evening and weekend hours) using an extensive mix of print and digital tools.
Participate in evolving initiatives such as virtual reference service
Instruct and assist patrons in developing research strategies.

INFORMATION LITERACY INSTRUCTION RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of the Coordinator of Information Literacy and Instruction, design and teach general or subject-focused (in collaboration with faculty) customized Information Literacy sessions that support lifelong learning and academic coursework.
§ Teach web and licensed database search and evaluation techniques, and mentor patrons with focused needs.
§ Provide a heavy emphasis on promoting Information Literacy campus-wide.
§ Participate in the development and delivery of library instruction to online and distance learners; focus on course-integrated library instruction, including creating and maintaining web pages, subject guides, and instructional materials using web and presentation software.

LIAISON TO DESIGNATED GRCC DEPARTMENTS/PROGRAMS
Under the guidance of the Coordinator of Liaison Services, create and implement an annual liaison action plan.
§ Provide collection development, management, and assessment in liaison areas.
§ Serve as the Library's primary subject specialist to designated departments/programs/academic units providing active outreach to faculty and students. This would include working closely with department/program staff and meeting as a group twice a year plus meeting informally as often as needed.
§ Develop print and electronic collections to support instruction (including de-accession)
§ Participate in collaboration with other GRCC subject specialist librarians to develop and implement new programs and technological initiatives that enhance and expand Library services to students and faculty.
§ Select, evaluate, and monitor traditional and digital resources to create and enhance web-based research guides pertinent to assigned areas.
§ Assist faculty members with effective integration of the Library's digital resources into their curricula.

Serve with other librarian subject specialists as an active member of the GRCC Library
§ Participate in committee work within the Library (such as significant contribution to the planning, development, and assessment of departmental policies creating Library goals and objectives, planning, and setting priorities) and on the campus.
§ Make patrons feel welcome and ensure a comfortable study atmosphere in the Library
§ Collaborate with colleagues throughout local, regional, and national libraries to cooperatively develop and manage print and digital resources.
§ Represent the Library by promoting awareness of the Library's mission, resources, and services.
§ Collaborate with departmental staff in long- and short-term planning and vision of the academic library in the 21st century.

PURSUE PROFESSIONAL/COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
§ Maintain current awareness of emerging information and library technologies, keeping in mind their possible application to Library services by keeping up with professional literature, attending conferences and workshops, and other activities as appropriate.
§ As a member of the library profession, exhibit a strong commitment to the profession and its service ethic.
§ Participate in regional and/or national library associations.
§ Actively support Library colleagues, Library Mission and service goals as well as the GRCC Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Priorities.

SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Coordinate and troubleshoot daily operation of the GRCC integrated library system (Innovative Interfaces, Inc. [III]).
§ Perform upgrades to the III system as directed by III.
§ Provide operational and user support for the Library's ILS including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of client modules.
§ Serve as liaison between the ILS vendor and the Library.
§ Provide training to Library staff designed to help the Library create, manage, and preserve information resources while promoting customer self-sufficiency.
§ Provide technical expertise, advanced knowledge, and independent judgment to diagnose, analyze, and design solutions for problems with the ILS.
§ Serve as liaison to GRCC Information Technology Department regarding Innopac, web page server, and setup of Library PCs.
§ Explore innovative applications of emerging information technologies that enhance and expand service to customers and increase productivity of staff.
§ Collaborate with Library staff to plan for future library automation and technology needs.
§ Compile statistics on Innopac use.
§ Coordinate III training, including online tutorials.
§ Provide instruction and assistance to Library staff on new III system releases and updates.
§ Maintain awareness of trends and products in the ILS marketplace.
§ Coordinate online catalog displays and enhancements.
§ Maintain Library's collaboration with MelCat and other regional or statewide collaborative resource-sharing initiatives.
§ Serve as part of the liaison team to III and the Michigan Innovative Users' Group.

WEBSITE COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Coordinate Library staff team responsible for the content and presentation of the Library's website.
§ Develop web-, network-, and Internet-based applications.
§ Compile and report statistics on web page use.
§ Coordinate web page training, including on-line tutorials.
§ Maintain and update Library website with the assistance of Library staff, including usability testing.

REQUIREMENTS
§ Master's of Library Studies from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
§ Three (3) or more years of recent, concentrated, hands-on, progressively responsible experience in automated integrated library systems and information technology in an academic library.
§ Two (2) years of recent experience in website management, including working knowledge of web development, design tools, authoring software, technologies, and scripting resources.
§ Knowledge of website design, development, usability testing, implementation, and maintenance in an academic library, including exploring and evaluating of new electronic resources, and creation and maintenance of links to electronic resources.
§ Demonstrated user-centered service philosophy and proven ability to work with both technical and non-technical people.
§ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a complex, fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
§ Evidence of excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communications skills.
§ Ability to learn quickly and apply new knowledge.
§ Demonstrated strong computer skills, including a thorough understanding of information technology, networked information resources, web development, digitization, library applications and automated systems, Innovative Interfaces, Inc. preferred, and exploring and evaluating new educational technologies.
§ Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and assess projects.
§ Demonstrated initiative and flexibility in adapting to change.
§ Specialized training in or experience with collection development practices in an academic library.
§ Specialized training in or experience with bibliographic instruction or information literacy practices in an academic library.
§ Specialized training in or experience with reference services and group instruction in an academic library.
§ Working knowledge of Blackboard.
