The issue will not be with us in general it will be with the OPAC which
system generates window.open() commands which the new IE will block as a
pop-up... yes, turning off the pop-up blocker should fix this, but I
expect the public will not know to do this unless we tell them.
There is a snipet of code that can check if the browser in XP SP2 and do
something based on that fact, but depending on the access point the
patrons use we may not be able to cause a message to display advising
them that XP SP2 pop-up blocker may cause a screen not to display to
them...

The above link provides a list of commands that are blocked
automatically and a SP2 detecting script.

I'm sure this list has already been posted, but I'll do it again. Here
is the knowledge base article Microsoft has posted to help users
evaluate programs that will be affected in upgrading to XP SP2.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=842242
In general, its always a good idea to evaluate how a large update like
this one will affect supported applications/infrastructure, but I hope
that it doesn't stop folks from eventually updating their machines.
I've been running this patch since it was in beta on my home network and
by and large, the incompatiblities with most software will fall into one
main catagory:
1) A port has been blocked -- since XP turns on its firewall by default,
most Windows ports will now be closed by default. This is easy to fix.
Just re-open the port or disable the firewall (which was my preference
since I use ZoneAlarm as my personal firewall software).
With that said, there are a hanful of software programs like Norton
Antivirus 8&9 and Microsoft's SMS that require patches to work with SP 2
because they access the operating system using methods that are no
longer consider safe.
But by and large, I've noticed very few problems with the update
(outside of its immense size), though each persons experience will
probably vary depending on network and PC configuration.
