- Subject: RE: Creating a new books list
Hi Donna
We create a 'New Books List' monthly here at ECU.
Like Steve Sowder, we use the 'Create List' function. We have a saved search for each call number range (Dewey 000 - 099, 100 - 199, etc.), as this part of the search doesn't change from month to month. These searches are amended each time to include a CAT DATE within the previous month. We also exclude any with marc tag 500 containing "Communicated for", as this indicates those titles added to eReserve.
We sort this list by Title. (Chose Sort, Bib record type, MARC tag 245).
We then change the month in WWWOPTIONS file 'Featured List' option:-
FEATURED_LIST=63,64,65,66,67,68,69,70,71,72|New Library Items in July
|Categories|# Of Items
The New Books List can be viewed at
http://library.ecu.edu.au/ftlist
This procedure doesn't take much time - around 30 to 45 minutes per month.
Kind regards
Lisa Billingham

Subject: Creating a new books list
We are preparing to tackle creating a new books list. I know many of
the libraries on this listserv have already accomplished this, so I am
asking for tips and any advice that could be a timesaver for us. Our
first step is to create a monthly list of new books that are available
and on the shelves...we would also like to provide a live link to each
item's record in our online catalog...and of course we would like it to
be visually appealing, not just a long laundry list of indistinguishable
titles. Any suggestions/directions? Can you advise on the monthly
"maintenance" this will require? Thanks!
