Hi John:

This was a topic of discussion a couple of years ago. I searched the
archives for "blank volume" and found a solution that seemed to work for
another library
http://innovativeusers.org/list/archives/2003/msg00206.html

in short, once they used a strategy supplied by III's Judith Clark to
isolate the problem items in a review file, they used rapid update to
delete all volume fields in the records, being assured that the records
only contained 'blank' volume fields or no volume fields.

Hope this helps

Subject: Need help in global update to remove empty volume field

Good morning,
We have several libraries that inadvertently created item records with
templates that had a default volume field that is now empty. I can
isolate
these in a review file, but I am having no luck using global update to
delete them en masse. Can anyone provide a suggestion as to how to
accomplish this? All wisdom appreciated in advance.
