Don --
Thanks for your comments. Insofar as the webpub file is concerned, Jeff Trimble (Youngstown State) allowed me to put his test file on the web. While he is in the same state as you (he is not using it because with Phase 3, it was not doing everything he wanted it to do), he did offer it up as an example. Even something in draft form might be better than the more minimal example that is in the manual. To see it, please go to the Clearinghouse (
http://www.innovativeusers.org/clearinghouse/ and search for "webpub." Thanks Jeff for offering it up.
I did not think about looking at different style sheets from the links within the WebOPAC. I do not think that it is a problem or would break any rule (strictly from my point of view). I think that most of us have canvassed the different WebOPACs to see what people are doing and this is really no difference. I think that if I were to copy a style sheet from another site from that means, I might contact them just to let them know. We wanted to be sure to include the author in the Clearinghouse not only as a source of support, but also for acknowledgement. As we create our year end reports, it is nice to say that a librarian from such-and-such asked me about our WebOPAC. The distinction that might come out is that a style sheet on the Clearinghouse might be something that is annotated for sharing.
I think that Style sheets are going to be a big part of the WebOPAC down the road as we get more and more control over them. I have been through the same experience as you did and owe a lot of my understanding of the style sheets to Bob Duncan (Lafayette) and Dinah Sanders (iii). This would probably be a good half day workshop at the next IUG.

Corey:
I have a webpub.def working at my staging area. But since it is not a
def in production, I am not going to offer it.
In terms of stylesheets, I would suggest that if anyone like the style
of a particular site, he/she can view the sources and use the link to
grab that stylesheet. Literally, there are hundreds out there... Does
my suggestion break any rule?
But do not grab my stylesheet. Since my upgrade to Silver, my WebOPAC
display has the look of my lawn--uneven to say the least. This is due to
the fact that Silver adds some new classes and changes the name of some
other classes. Heads up for those who plan to upgrade and also have
written their own stylesheets. The more you do, the more you have to or
are forced to do.
