Position: Head of Reference and Information Literacy

Responsibilities:  The Head of Reference and Information Literacy, under
the direction of Head of Public Services, is responsible for the
administration and supervision of the reference and information literacy
program, including general reference service, development of the reference
collection in all formats, staff development, coordinating virtual
reference services, planning for the future structure of reference
services, and staffing of the reference department.  The position requires
an innovative and user oriented leader who will actively participate in the
above activities as well as supervise, evaluate and coordinate five (5) or
more full-time librarians with faculty status, one SPA librarian, and
student assistants. Will also serve as subject area bibliographer and
library liaison with one or more academic department(s).  Night and
week-end work required.

Qualifications:  A master's degree in Library or Information Science from
an ALA approved program; a minimum of five (5) years of recent experience
in a medium to large academic library with two (2) years of supervisory
experience.  Demonstrated successful professional experience in public
services and increasingly responsible management experience including the
supervision of professional staff.  Demonstrated leadership and management
skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills; evidence of
commitment to professional growth; ability to work collegially in small
group and team environments; strong customer service orientation; and
extensive experience with print and electronic reference sources and
services.

Salary:  Salary is communsurate with training and experience.  This is a
twelve-month tenure-track appointment with faculty rank, state or optional
retirement program, group health and life insurance, and 24 days of annual
leave.
