Yes and no. We use this technique a lot, but we then have to massage the results for any of our records which have certain diacritics or, especially, Chinese characters. These are output in brace code format using III's xrecord command, so we have to then convert them to their UTF-8 characters - despite the fact that the xrecord XML identifies itself as being UTF-8. We have an enhancement request in on this, although we requested this enhancement 4 years ago so I don't know if it will ever appear. :)
