Terry:

You can. It is actually not a complicated process.

All you need is the syntax: http://yourlibrary/xrecord=bxxxxxx , and a
file with the bib numbers, then use a perl (with LWP module installed)
script to loop through the file to write the search results to txt file.

However, the file you get would have format like the following before
every xml record.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE IIIRECORD SYSTEM
"http://library.wmitchell.edu:80/iiirecord.dtd";>
<IIIRECORD>
<RECORDINFO>
<RECORDKEY>b180838</RECORDKEY>
<CREATEDATE>04-14-2004</CREATEDATE>
..........

You can either find and replace the <?xml or write another script to
get rid of the <?xml before every record. You now have the xml records
in one file. You can build different xml databases using this
technique.

I have sample script for you to try if you are interested. By the way,
thanks very much for your MarcEdit. That IS a GREAT product! Using the
COM with perl, no words can describe it! Do you intend to keep it for
free for time indefinite?

Something that I'm not sure I've ever heard talked about, but you can
export data in Dublin Core using Z39.50 in III (at least current
versions). However, to export groups of records in XML, I believe that
you have to have the XML server data installed.

Is it possible to export a group of records (review file, etc.) into a
text-based xml format?

I already know about the xrecord=b web dump, but I would like to be able
to output a group of records instead of one at a time.

Thanks.
