Head of Access Services

The University of Arkansas Libraries seek experienced public service oriented candidates for the position of Head of Access Services. Reporting to the Director for Public Services, this position will provide leadership for a newly created Access Services Department that integrates the services and operations that provide access to collections and resources of the University Libraries. This department will include the primary functions of circulation services (desk, stacks, course reserves, billing, circulation module coordination for the main library and branches), interlibrary loan services (borrowing, lending, document delivery), electronic reserves, and current periodicals and microforms. Through the use of innovative approaches and emerging technologies, new and expanded programs will be designed in a collaborative environment to provide quality user-centered services and programs that meet the needs of the University community.

Major responsibilities include: supervision of personnel (18 FTE); collaboration with library departments and campus units; formulation of policies and procedures; planning, implementing and evaluating service programs; and reporting on department activities. The Head of Interlibrary Loan will report to the person in this position and will serve as the Assistant Head of Access Services.

Qualifications: Required: ALA accredited M.L.S. or equivalent; 5 years of progressive professional experience in an academic or research library with a minimum of 3 years?professional experience in access services; demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience; excellent communication skills; knowledge of and experience with technology in the delivery of circulation services, interlibrary loan services, and course reserves; familiarity with and understanding of issues related to current periodicals and microforms; knowledge of collection development practices and access-related statistical analysis; willingness to engage in faculty liaison activities; and the ability to work effectively in a diverse and changing environment. Preferred: Experience with the Innovative Interfaces circulation module, ILLiad, electronic reserves, or other technology related to access services; knowledge of trends in access services; experience in strategic planning.

Salary and faculty rank dependent on qualifications. Tenure-track, twelve-month appointment. Benefits include TIAA/CREF and/or Fidelity, 22 days?annual leave, tuition reduction, health and dental insurance.
