The one email that gets translated is correctly entered in the patron record. Other earthlink subscribers are not affected. We've deleted the patron's email and added it back in again, thinking there are control characters somehow embedded in that field.
However, even when we are not sending email from the ILS system, but just using our Microsoft Outlook to send her a message, her email is corrupted "out there" somewhere and comes back with the extra "L", always in the same place.
Maybe it is an earthlink problem?

A couple quick questions -- Does this problem affect all earthlink
addresses? If so, that suggests that the problem is with how your campus
handles email (though you'd think that would cause too many problems to
not be noticed.)
Also, when you say the addresses is changed, do mean that the correct
email appears in the patron record, but messages get directed to the
wrong address? Or do you verify that the correct email address is in the
record, but then something changes it to the wrong address later? If the
latter is the case, it sounds like a patron record load is overwriting
the field.
