When we migrated from Classic Dynix several years ago, we know that our orders records note going to make it to our new system. We were using Academic as our primary book vendor. We decided to on the following:
1) Continue to use our Order cards ( 3x5 card that are filled by the requester for each title)
2) Place orders on the vendors site (using Academic Book Bag)
3) If the book arrived while we still had Dynix up and running, cataloging and payment of the time happened there. When our final load of data from Dynix to III happened the bib and item record would be loaded along with all the other records.
4) If the book arrived after the migration to III an X-type invoice was created for the item in Innovative to make the payment. The book then moved on to cataloging as normal.

We started order on Academic a few months before we migrated. We looked at the average item from when an order was placed until the item arrived. This worked for us.

Hi everyone,
We are migrating to III this fall from Dynix Classic. I really appreciate the help I've been able to receive via this list.
Currently, we're trying to understand how to deal with ACQ data that we can't migrate electronically....which is most or all of that data. It looks like the best way to do this will be to have an archival system of some kind until all of our order/invoice/vendor information can be completely transferred.
Did anyone use their old vendor software like a 'holding tank' without vendor support? I've seen one system that transferred data to HTML format that included links to manipulate the data easily. I've also heard of transferring data via an Access database posted online.
The only part of the data that I think has a decent chance of migrating between Dynix and III directly are our vendor records. I believe we would need to 'purge' records from vendors we haven't used for 2 years or more. Does III have a vendor code automatically assigned? Or, can we use the numbers we already have assigned from Dynix?
It looks like we're facing a lot of re-keying. On average, we have 8000+ open orders during any given month. We are one of the largest regional library systems in the United States with 43 branches.
It seems like we're in the position of reinventing the wheel which is particularly difficult to understand since III gets new customers all the time who must have the same questions about their ACQ data. Thank you for your help,

Kathleen Olsen
