- Subject: Patron Self Check-In
Dear fellow IUGers,
I would love to hear from any III libraries out there that have successfully instituted a system allowing patrons to check in their own items. This could be via a dedicated Self-Check machine, or perhaps a computer set up with a scanner and III software (with or without magnetic tattle-tape or RFID). It can also be in conjunction with bookdrops (automated or not) for patrons to drop off materials. Basically, if you have a patron self check-in working at all in your library, I'd love to hear about it. If you happen to be in the Connecticut or New York area, even better, as it would be helpful to see such a system in action.
Some of the questions I have about patrons checking in their own items are:
-how are items on Hold handled by patrons as they are checked in?
-where are the checked-in items deposited?
-do patrons get (or need) a receipt of checked-in items and/or remaining checked-out items?
Feel free to respond to either my work e-mail (wgray@xxxxxxxxxx) and/or the list.
Thanks in advance!
