Our system has a drop-down list to choose which fields to specifically use (author, title, subject, note) in the advanced keyword. As best as I can tell, it does accurately return results that are subsets of the larger keyword index. http://mls.onconcord.com/search/X We do not have separate screens (yet) for each of the different types of keyword searching. This advanced keyword screen gives a drop-down list to choose from.

We did not really do any special setup - what we have I lovingly call "out of the box". If we made any modifications to the setup, it was in the very early stages of our system config -- probably during the dataload process. It was out of a theoretical picture of what we wanted, not from any specific experience with the system. Now that we are online (Dec 03), we are finding some things that are not working as we expected, and we do plan to revisit some of the indexing choices, and the OPAC setup stuff.

We also have been finding some patterns of the system not doing what it should. Fer instance - we are getting publisher info from 260 $a and 260 $b showing up in keyword search results. Check out Englewood or Prentice as keyword searches on our system. Hey - I gave a try to those searches on your system to see if the pub info is showing up on keyword searches, and yup - they do on yours too. Of course, I do not know how your indexes are set up, but on our system in the "character based side" I can see in "Display Index Rules" that none of the 260 field data should be indexed. So, we are pulling together these kinds of problems and plan to bring them to the HelpDesk for resolution.

I hope that I did not dance around your question. But short story is that we are still learning about how to best setup these index search screens for our patrons to use. We will look forward to hearing about what others reply to your question.

Paul

Subject: Title-keyword &/or Subject-keyword search?

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone out there in Innovative-land has developed title-keyword or subject-keyword search screens for their library WebOPAC?
I know you can do a title/subject keyword search through advanced keyword searching, but I'm looking for examples where the searches have been set up as a separate search options/pages.

Thanks in advance.
