Hi Kathleen,
I don't think I've seen a response to your question yet so I'll take a stab at it!
It sounds to me like your Dynix Classic system functions in the same way as our old GEAC ADVANCE system did. When an order record was input, the system created "dummy" item records with "negative" barcodes for each copy of the title being ordered and those items showed up in the OPAC as copies on order for that particular location.

The Millennium system does not work in this way. In Millennium, you attach an order record to a bibliographic record and the order record contains the information about the number of copies being ordered and the locations to which they belong. In the OPAC it shows up as "1 copy on order for Branch A ; 1 copy on order for Branch B ; etc., etc....."

Item records are not created until you actually receive the title. Your trainer will go over all of this with you.

Good luck!!

Hello from Issaquah, WA!
I've been lurking on the list for awhile. KCLS is migrating from Dynix Classic to III late fall 2004.
Dynix issues a negative barcode as a place holder for items ordered. What is the III equivalent to this?

thanks, Kathleen Olsen
