Yes, on the telnet side you can set up new item records for duplicate checking on barcode. Access this under M - I - S - D; the particular function is called: "New Item Record: Duplicate Check on Fields ... " and you specify what field you want. We check our new item records for duplicate "b" (barcode) fields.

This setup done, when you attempt to add the same barcode in Millennium a second time, Millenniumn opens the item record of the already-existing occurrence of that barcode, with a message across the top of the screen stating "Duplicate record(s) found" so that you know what that barcode is already assigned to in your system. If this info is okay, you can close this screen, and you'll go back to the new item record you were attempting to add (with the duplicate barcode), so you can cancel adding the duplicate, or change the barcode to a new one, whatever you want to do.
