Greetings all.

Houston Public uses a collection agency and informs the customer that the
account may be submitted to a collection agency if the account isn't
resolved within 14 days of the date of the notice. We generate billing
notices at 42 days overdue, and the interface is set to submit unresolved
accounts at 60 days overdue, so there are 4 additional days built in to
compensate for weekends and holidays when we don't compile and send notices.
The collection agency we use also has a notice mailing service that we use.
That gives us greater flexibility with the wording, since they are able to
dump the account information into a much more informative letter than we
could produce ourselves. Our wording is below -

"Please make payment within 14 days of the date of this notice or the
account may be submitted to a collection agency. A $10.00 collection fee
will be added to the account if it is submitted for collection."

Subject: wording of notices

If your library uses a collection agency, do you include wording to that
affect on your bills and statements of charges? If so, would you be
willing to share your wording with the list?

Ours currently states that if the bill is not paid within 30 days that
the patron will be turned over to the collection agency.

Many thanks.
