ACCESS SERVICES LIBRARIAN (FA018)
Longwood University, a comprehensive, residential, coeducational state
university located in the Heart of Virginia with approximately 4000 students
and 170 faculty, invites applications for a service-oriented librarian to
provide leadership, organization and management of all operational aspects
of access services. The Access Services Librarian reports to the University
Librarian and works closely with library staff to ensure quality services to
the university community both on and off campus.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be responsible for the
management of circulation, reserves (print and electronic), stacks
maintenance, interlibrary loan and document delivery. S/he will develop,
coordinate and implement policies related to patron use of the collections,
services, and facilities; identify and develop appropriate assessment of
access services; and directly supervise two full-time staff. S/he will
manage the student worker program; oversee building security; ensure that
the Library follows copyright and intellectual property issues related to
access services; participate in collection development, library instruction
and reference; serve as library liaison to one or more academic departments;
and perform other duties as assigned. Some evening and weekend work may be
required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program; strong
commitment to customer service; demonstrated ability to supervise and manage
multiple priorities effectively; excellent interpersonal and communication
skills; ability to meet academic promotion requirements. Preferred: Some
familiarity with integrated library systems (III Millennium); experience
working in a technologically complex environment; familiarity with current
practices for copyright compliance; 1-5 years relevant experience in an
academic setting.
