We did a similar thing with all our AV equipment. They have barcodes that start with 4. III did something to recognize it as a valid barcode.

Odd question.....but I need some help.
We are allowing our campus' IT Dept. to use our Innopac system to check
out their equipment (laptops, camcorders, etc.). The topic of barcodes
came up. I think I am stating this correctly: our symbology is 14
digit codabar. Our CSUSM sequence is either 2 0680 (patrons) or 3 0680 (library
materials). My understanding is that 0680 ID's our campus. No one seems to know who gave us our ID, so I decided to see if other
libraries have done something similar, or know the "rules" of the
barcode game. Non-CSU's in our area seem to use the same 2 (patron)
and 3 (materials) format. IITS and the library want IITS to have there own barcodes. Is it
completely at our campus' discretion to have their barcodes begin with
say 5 0680?
Thank you for ANY assistance. They want to purchase them ASAP so I
will take even your best guesses.
