My library has been using a proxy server as a means of off-campus
authentication for accessing online databases. Patrons connect to our
proxy server and a login box will pop up to verify the patrons' network
accounts.

Recently, the university Computer Services installed a firewall and the
library proxy server stopped providing the login box and thus anybody
who connects to the proxy server have access to the online databases.
The new firewall is manufactured by Symantec. It is a Gateway Security
5310. This firewall was previously known as Raptor.

Are there libraries that have gone through this process? Are there
libraries who apply other methods of authentication? I greatly
appreciate if you would share your experience with us!!!

I apologize this is a "non-III" question!

Thank you very much!
