The patron API is useful anytime you want to authenticate users against
your III database for any purpose. If you have any plans to use non-III
software which requires authentication, you can use the patron API.  We
use it to authenticate users for ILLiad (ILL software), EzProxy (proxy
server), MetaLib(single-search interface), and with a home-grown
application which authenticates users elsewhere on campus where students
can check-out laptops, without actually using our circulation system. In
other words, they have their own stand-alone check-out systems
elsewhere, but they are able to check against our database to make sure
the student is a valid student, has no fines, and has permission to
check-out a laptop.

We are considering purchasing Cybraryn but need Innovative's Patron API
product to make the barcode authentication work properly.  Patron API is

cheap, so I'd like to have other potential applications for this product
before I purchase it from Innovative.
