We have had an AOL account here in the building for a couple of years for
such testing, but found we were not using it enough to justify the cost.
We did use it extensively when we switched from traditional proxying to
the proxy rewrite (and had to test EVERYTHING!), but now our testing, like
with Web of Science, is infrequent enough that we decided it would be ok
to use staff accounts for off campus checking. It is usually either me or
our technology strategist who do the testing.
Again...thanks to the fabulous people on this list!

I also appreciate the help in fixing a problem that no one reported that
we
had. That's a different issue altogether, which I won't get into with this
post.
Question:
Those of you who responded immediately to the list saying you had the same
problem--do you have an off-campus ISP to test whether WAM is working or
not
working? In the ISI case I could see on campus that it wasn't working,
but
in other cases, where there has been a redirect, access to that resource
has
continued to work on my PC because I'm on the campus network and have a
campus network IP address.
That's a long way of asking, do you find it necessary to have an
off-campus
ISP to test WAM and does your institution provide that to you?
