Head of Systems and Databases
Denison Memorial Library, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center
(UCHSC), Denver, seeks resourceful and innovative candidates for a
senior level position responsible for coordinating the acquisitions,
cataloging, and processing of all library materials, and for overseeing
the library's systems operations and Web presence.  The incumbent is
responsible for planning and implementing efficient flow of materials
processing; the provision of effective access to print and electronic
resources; coordinating cataloging and automation services for a local
consortia of health sciences libraries sharing the library's collections
database; providing overall guidance to IT support personnel responsible
for the technology-related objectives of the library; and actively
contributing to ongoing library planning.  The Health Sciences Center is
in the process of moving to its new Fitzsimons campus, and library staff
are presently planning the building of a twenty-first century library,
scheduled to open in early 2006 [see http://www.uchsc.edu/fitzsimons/].
The UCHSC includes schools of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and
dentistry, allied health and graduate programs, and the University of

Required:  ALA accredited master's degree in library science; five years
work in a health sciences, academic, or life sciences library; and three
years supervisory experience managing professional staff.  Experience
managing an integrated library system, preferably in a consortia or
complex library environment.  Familiarity with current trends in the
organization of electronic and digital resources, and interest and
involvement in emerging digital information environments.  Evidence of
excellent communication, interpersonal and project management skills.
Ability to manage time and staff, and to meet deadlines in a complex,
energetic environment.
 
Preferred:  Experience in one or more of the following areas: database
control, serials cataloging, computer file/electronic resource
cataloging.  Knowledge of: AACR2, MARC, XML and other national
cataloging standards; sound fiscal/accounting practices; automated
serials management and trends in technical services; trends in library
networks, systems and Web applications; and evidence of skill in
employing innovative approaches to improve operations and services.
Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals.
 
Salary:  $65,000 minimum based on qualifications and experience.  This
is a non-tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate
