I have not know the system to delete a record by itself. These are a few things I would look for.
First, if you can remember the non-indexed fields from that record (maybe the address field, phone number or something), I would try to find the record through create lists. Also, if you have the patron record number, I would try to search for that as well. I have seen instances where someone inadvertently deleted a field in a patron record (such as name, barcode, or ID) that was the only way to find that record.
Second, I would try to recreate if you did any editing in the record. The Delete icon in the tool bar when editing a record will actually delete the record, not the field. (Control+"D" will delete the field). Is it possible that you thought you were deleting a field and actually took out the whole record. I only bring this up because I nearly did it myself.
Hope this helps. If it looks like you followed the system by the books, I would contact the helpdesk and ask them to see if there is something that they can track.

itself. I tried to search by barcode #, Name but there is nothing. I don't
