Stephen :

Are you referring to "Maintaining Record Links" /"Daily Link
Maintenance- a function which essentially synchronizes your bib and item
locations based on a mapping table the library creates and if desired,
rearranges attached records alphabetically by location? The section in
the manual on "Maintain Record Links in listed under Database
Maintenance at # 105069 .

You can run this feature at will from a range of record numbers or a
review file, or, using the "daily link maintenance" feature which
synchronizes the bib locations but based on records that are read into a
system generated "link maintenance file". My understanding is that this
file just contains the bib/item records that have been changed since the
last time Daily Link Maintenance was run. The process runs faster w/
Daily Link Maintenance, since the system doesn't have to read through
the entire bib database. See Manual # 101458 for more info on DLM

The new aspect in Phase 3 is that you can now schedule Daily Link
Maintenance to automatically run at a library specified time - typically
overnight. III has to setup the scheduling for this. If you
automatically run DLM, the system will produce a "Link Maintenance
Report" indicating the number of records looked at/ updated/ busied -
see Manual # 105466.

The Link Maintenance Report is viewable in the Mil Administration module
from Reports/Link Maintenance. You'll need authorization #271 - clear
record links maintenance log - to view the report.

Hope this helps, cheryl

Many thanks for the responses to my query. I am pretty sure that I saw
some description of the service at csdirect a while back, but I sure
can't find it now. While I'm certainly more than happy to let the help
desk set this up, I'd like to know exactly what the program will do, so
that we can make an informed decision about implementing it, and that's
why I was hoping for a detailed description. I'm a cautious lad, and I'd
like to know what I'm getting into before we take the plunge. I guess
I'll have to ask the help desk for details!
