Hi Moira:
I had opened a call on this while beta testing Phase 3, since I also
found the column to be confusing/misleading. I had thought the column
would provide a graphic/text representation of the mat type, as in the
OPAC. It turns out it is only used to indicate the presence of a
electronic document, added as part of e-reserves. I then suggested that
a change to the column header to "Electronic Format", or something along
those lines, might be less confusing. I was told to submit an
enhancement request if we wanted to pursue these suggestions.
Here is III's response to my call:
"The format is a new column added in Phase 3. Previously, if a 962
field
existed in the bib record attached to a reserve record (either directly
or
through an item) the WebPAC appended the text "Electronic Copy
Available"
to the Status text. The Format Column breaks this out into its own
column. The display is hard-coded at this time and cannot be
customizable."

Subject: Course reserves "format" column in WebOPAC
With Phase 3, a new column called "format" appeared in the "Materials
for
this course" table on the WebOPAC reserves pages. (Example:
http://library.pcc.edu/search/pschutzer/pschutzer/1,1,4,B/frameset&FF=ps
chutzer+william&2,,4).
Our e-reserves are mostly PDFs, although we have some GIFs, JPGs, and
MP3s. We use Acrobat to create PDFs, rather than the Scanning and
Cataloging Workstation.
Our format column is empty, and I'm not sure what field(s) in the bib or
item records (or media set) control this. Anybody know?
Moira
