Students placing holds

Colleagues,

At SCU we have a long tradition of not permitting our student
assistants to place holds on materials. When these occasions occur, a
member of the circulation staff is called and s/he enters his/her
initials to place the hold.

We are now in the middle of a review of our circ desk policies and
procedures and would like to hear the good, bad and ugly from other
institutions who either made the switch from staff to students placing
holds, or have always had students placing holds.

Of course, we do plan to also implement self-hold as another way around
this issue.
