another Mac-MilSer display issue

Upgrade to Phase 3. This "no text in the check-in boxes" just drove me bonkers.

We upgraded last week, and while I havn't had that problem, I have a 
new one where only the first 8 characters will display in a check-in 
box. So if I have a date "Jan/Feb 2003" only the "Jan/Feb" will 
appear in the check-in box. If there is a volume number with 3 
digits, the issue number is cut off.

I've been experimenting with different font sizes & styles. Turning 
off the bold-face, and increasing the font size to 16 helps some, but 
doesn't completely solve the issue.

We do have an open log on this problem.
