We have rotated subject headings, for all the reasons Ann mentions. We
recently made a change to our subject heading display, choosing to
display the proper heading rather than the normalized form. We found
complicated headings too confusing when normalized, like this one:
Henry Iv 1589 1610 Witchcraft History France Juvenile Fiction
So we now have headings rotated, but displaying in the same format as in
the bib record, which looks like this for a search on Iceland:
Iceland
Iceland -- Administrative and political divisions -- Maps
Aeronautical charts -- Iceland
Iceland agate -- See --Obsidian
Agriculture -- Iceland
Agriculture and state -- Iceland
Aids to navigation -- Iceland -- Lists
It can be a little confusing to have Iceland not appear as the first
element of each heading, and we wish we could have an option to have the
matched part of the heading (in this case Iceland) display in a
different color or font or be otherwise highlighted. But overall we
find this less confusing.
