- Subject: RE: How Millenium Benefits OPAC Users
Our patrons also love My Millennium. What they mostly enjoy is not putting
in their library card number over and over as they place holds. However, we
also recently turned on the shopping cart feature which now means they can
place holds on multiple titles at once. They love that even more.
One problem with My Millennium for staff though. Staff want to be able to
login to the web catalog and view staff mode. To do this My Millennium uses
the ptype of "staff". And it does not time out. Sounds great? Well, it is
except when you want to do it at a service desk (reference, childrens, etc.)
Public librarians spend most of their day placing holds for patrons at the
desk. If we are logged in as ourselves through My Millennium then we can
never place a hold because the best part (for the webpac) is that My
Millennium doesn't prompt for a patron record to place a hold since you are
already logged in. So, our staff spend a lot of time going back and forth
between the web catalog and Search/Holds in MilCirc when they need to see
staff information on a record (last time checked in, etc...). Seems as if
we ought to be able to control this through an IP address or a login. Since
enhancements are now open, I think I'll turn this in. It would make our
lives much easier at the desk.

Turning on the My Millennium was of most benefit to our OPAC users. This
include patron self-renewals, preferred lists and emails sent to the patron
when a new item is added to their preferred list.
Some of our patrons use this like a best sellers list to tell them when to
place a hold on a new book.
