We set up our OPACS with a very restricted log in per instructions that
are in the archives. (Windows XP boxes) So far it has worked out.

Subject: Guest access to public workstations

Please forgive this slightly off-topic query and modest cross-posting.
I'm
hoping to get a broad sample of what other libraries' current practice
is
regarding security and access to public workstations.

Our college is moving toward a security model that requires all users to
login to public workstations for any use. Our libraries, however, have
reciprocal use agreements with area colleges and those students will not
have accounts here.

If your institution requires network authentication (for example, via
LDAP)
for all computer use, how do you handle guest use? Do you assign a
temporary
username and password to the guest? Do you have a local guest account on
public workstations? How are matters of security vs. access addressed?

Please respond to me off-list and I will gladly compile a summary of
results
for the list.

Thanks,
