scanner problem

Hi Everyone,
   I am hoping someone can help us solve a problem regarding scanning
barcodes in MilCat. I was able to find some information in the achieves but
it related to a different brand of scanner. When we scan a barcode in the
non-MARC field of an item record it automatically changes it to a MARC
format, by right clicking on the barcode number we can change the field back
to a non-MARC field but this takes more time. We are using a Metrologic
MS951 and have been reviewing the manual but unable to come up with the
correct combination of programming codes. We did replace the problem scanner
with a one from another workstation and it worked great, leaving us to
believe there is definitely a problem with the scanner. Any information you
can share would be very much appreciated!
