- Subject: Periodicals and Holds
Hello,
We are a large public library that is interested in improving our
periodical display in the catalog. We would like to find a way to attach
an item record to a "master" bib record for each copy of the magazine, so
the issues are able to be held as well as checked out. Unfortunately, the
paging list does not print volume information. So, a paging slip might
read, "People Magazine 2002" as a title, and list a barcode, but we would
have to look through 50 issues of a weekly magazine to find the one being
requested.
1. Does any library allow periodical holds? How are your records set up?
2. How does your staff find the right item to fill the hold?
Thanks,
Kathy Wiese
